Bixby’s Kyle Peterson: Character Counts Athlete – Presented by OU Physicians

Senior and captain of the varsity golf team at Bixby High School, Kyle Peterson has claimed the No.1 bag since his freshman season. Peterson is one of the top golfers in the state of Oklahoma at the high school level. This season he has his sights set on the state tournament after finishing seventh last year with a three-round score of 225. The Spartans as a team also finished in seventh.

“What I love most about my team is how competitive and friendly we have become. In practice we all want to win which brings the best out of everyone while off the course we are close friends,” said Peterson. “My season has been exciting and bittersweet so far. As a team we have high expectations this year and it’s only a matter of time until we start living up to those goals and expectations we have set for ourselves.”

Peterson has called the golf course home for eight years.

“It all started when my older brother introduced me to it and I was determined to beat him,” said Peterson.

Now in his final year at Bixby High School, Peterson said representing his school is an honor he will not soon forget.

“It’s an honor to represent Bixby in competition and being a captain on the golf team. I enjoy being the leader and the role model to the younger guys,” said Peterson. “Being a student athlete at BHS is great because of the support the entire Bixby community shows.”

Outside of golf, Peterson is involved in Student Council and Leadership at Bixby. He also enjoys hunting, fishing and playing basketball. But if there was one course he could play every day it would probably be on close to his future home at Oklahoma State University.

“My favorite place to play is Karsten Creek. The course is challenging and home to Oklahoma State,” said Peterson. “I plan to attend Oklahoma State University majoring in Entrepreneurship.”

Look for Peterson and the rest of the Spartan golfers to push opponents this season as they look to compete for a top five finish in 2019.
