Booker T. Washington’s Wyvette Mayberry is a star basketball player for the Lady Hornets. A senior point guard, Mayberry was also a VYPE Top 100 selection. She recently led the Lady Hornets to winning the Tournament of Champions for the second year in a row.

“It was a big deal and it was a big step from last year,” said Mayberry, and we feel like we have a chance to win it all now.”  Mayberry also said the team was ready to play and they felt they had something to prove.

“Us being mentally focused and ready to play every single night and even leading up to the tournament we were just locked in and knew that we had a
lot to prove after last season,” said Mayberry.

Wyvette is the leader for Booker T. Washington and takes that role very seriously.

“I just try to keep us motivated,” said Mayberry, “just playing as hard as I can and not getting down because when I get down, I notice it throws the whole team off so just trying to keep myself up for our team.”

Mayberry also knows that there’s still a lot of work to do if the Lady Hornets want to win a State Championship.

“Still just continuing to learn each other’s games better can help a lot and on defense just talking on and off the court can just help us communicate
better, “said Mayberry.

Wyvette has already committed to play her college basketball at Oral Roberts. For her, the decision was about family. Her dad is an assistant coach and her sister Maya already plays for ORU.

Mayberry is a star in the classroom as well with a 3.8 GPA. She plans to major in Biology and go on to veterinarian school.
