Watson Schiller Hilldale Football: Athlete of the Month Presented By Muscogee Creek Nation
- Updated: March 2, 2020
Watson Schiller is a junior at Hilldale High School and a member of the Muscogee Creek Nation. Schiller is involved in several activities at Hilldale including football, wrestling and track.
“I am in concurrent enrollment at Connors Stare College. I participate in football, wrestling, powerlifting and track. I have also played golf, baseball and soccer in high school,” said Schiller.
As a member of the Muscogee Creek Nation, Schiller feels a responsibility to know his heritage and support his people.
“I am in NASA (Native American Student Association), National Honors Society, Math Club, Student Council, Spanish Club, NIKE and Math Club,” said Schiller. “I am proud to be a member of the Creek nation, and have the opportunity to live on Creek land. I am very proud of what my tribe has done for our community and citizens.”
As a student-athlete the tribe has provided many things to Schiller over the years. Their help and support has allowed him to become an outstanding student-athlete and a role model for others to follow.
“The tribe has provided me with school supplies, ACT/AP tests, stipend for school clothing, and rewarded me for good grades,” said Schiller.
Family and honoring those who came before him is important to Schiller.
“My great grandfather was a Supreme Court Justice for the Muscogee Nation and I hope to make the same kind of impact on the tribe as he did,” said Schiller.
At Hilldale High School, Schiller enjoys representing his school and competing with his teammates.
“I love the brotherhood that comes with being on a team. I like being able to put in work with my teammates and being able to watch that hard work pay off,” said Schiller.
His future plans include continuing his education and playing sports at the next level.
“I would like continue my education and play a sport in college. I plan to major in chemistry to prepare me to apply to med school.”
